Insomnia
In Chinese medicine insomnia is described as a state where the spirit (Shen) is restless. This can be due either to insufficient tranquillity (Yin energy) or excess stimulation (Yang energy). Besides increasing Yin energy through meditation and breathing exercises or listening to relaxing music and decreasing Yang energy through avoiding excess mental stimulation (including most T.V.!), especially before sleeping, herbs and classical formulae can be chosen that support Yin, sedate Yang and calm the spirit.
